Very unique and rare coloration. Yellow is seldom seen I this hobby.
Wellsophyllia corals, often associated with Trachyphyllia due to their similar appearance, are large polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their vibrant colors, fleshy lobes, and unique, folded polyp structure. These corals are relatively hardy and make excellent additions to reef aquariums when provided with stable, pristine conditions.
Wellsophyllia prefer low to moderate lighting and gentle, indirect water flow to prevent tissue damage and promote healthy expansion. Ideal aquarium parameters include a temperature of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity at 8–12 dKH, calcium levels of 400–450 ppm, and magnesium around 1250–1350 ppm. Though they rely on photosynthesis via zooxanthellae, they benefit from regular target feeding with small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or reef-specific blends.
These corals should be placed on the sandbed in a low-traffic area, away from aggressive neighbors, to avoid injury to their delicate, fleshy tissue. With careful placement and stable water chemistry, Wellsophyllia can thrive and add bold color and elegance to a well-maintained reef tank.
