Collection: Scolymia

Scolymia corals, often called “scolys,” are prized large polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their bold coloration, round shape, and fleshy polyp structure, making them a stunning focal point in reef aquariums. These corals are relatively hardy and well-suited for intermediate hobbyists, provided they are given stable, clean water conditions.

Scolymias thrive under moderate lighting (LED, T5, or hybrid setups) and low to moderate, indirect flow that avoids direct blasts, which can cause tissue recession. Ideal aquarium parameters include a temperature range of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity of 8–12 dKH, calcium at 400–450 ppm, and magnesium levels around 1250–1350 ppm.

These corals benefit from target feeding 1–2 times per week with small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, LPS pellets, or reef roids, which can enhance coloration and growth. Scolymias should be placed on a stand in the sandbed or in low-flow areas of the rockwork, and spaced well from aggressive neighbors, as they are not strong competitors but can be damaged by stinging corals. With proper care, scolys can thrive and display brilliant color patterns in a mature reef system.
