Euphyllia yaeyamaensis is a less common and captivating species of large polyp stony (LPS) coral, closely related to other Euphyllia types like hammer, torch, and frogspawn corals. Known for its unique polyp structure—often appearing as a cross between branching and wall varieties—E. yaeyamaensis features fleshy, flowing tentacles in shades of green, yellow, brown, or cream with contrasting tips, creating stunning movement and visual appeal in reef aquariums.

This coral thrives in moderate lighting and moderate, indirect water flow, which allows its tentacles to sway naturally while minimizing the risk of tissue damage. Ideal aquarium parameters include a stable temperature of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity of 8–12 dKH, calcium levels of 400–450 ppm, and magnesium between 1250–1350 ppm.

Though photosynthetic, E. yaeyamaensis benefits from occasional feedings of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or LPS pellets to promote growth and vibrancy. Like other Euphyllia species, it can be aggressive and will extend sweeper tentacles, especially at night, so it should be given ample space from other corals. With stable water conditions and proper care, Euphyllia yaeyamaensis can thrive and serve as a unique and elegant addition to any reef aquarium.
