Frogspawn corals (Euphyllia divisa) are popular large polyp stony (LPS) corals prized for their vibrant colors and distinctive, bubble-like tentacles that resemble a cluster of frog eggs. These corals add beautiful movement and texture to reef aquariums and are relatively hardy, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists.
Frogspawn corals thrive under moderate lighting—such as LED or T5 systems—and moderate, indirect water flow that allows their tentacles to sway gently without being blasted. Ideal water parameters include a temperature of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity of 8–12 dKH, calcium levels of 400–450 ppm, and magnesium around 1250–1350 ppm.
While they are photosynthetic and can meet most of their energy needs through light, frogspawn corals also benefit from occasional feedings of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp or LPS pellets. They can be aggressive and extend long sweeper tentacles at night, so adequate space from other corals is essential. With stable conditions and proper care, frogspawn corals can grow into large, flowing colonies that become a standout feature in any reef tank.
