Super unique Lobophyllia coral. Deep navy color maybe even black with stunning contrasting color. One of a kind!!
Lobophyllia corals, commonly known as lobed brain corals or lobo corals, are large polyp stony (LPS) corals admired for their vibrant colors, fleshy polyps, and unique lobed or folded shapes. These corals are relatively hardy and suitable for reef aquarists who can maintain stable water conditions. Lobophyllia corals thrive under moderate lighting and low to moderate, indirect water flow that encourages polyp expansion without causing tissue damage.
Ideal aquarium parameters include a temperature of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity of 8–12 dKH, calcium levels of 400–450 ppm, and magnesium around 1250–1350 ppm. While they rely on photosynthesis through their zooxanthellae, they benefit greatly from regular feedings of meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized LPS coral foods, which promote growth and enhance coloration.
Lobophyllia corals can be moderately aggressive and extend sweeper tentacles at night, so they should be given plenty of space from neighboring corals. With proper placement and consistent care, these corals can thrive and become stunning centerpiece specimens in a reef aquarium.
