Bounce mushroom corals, a striking variety of Rhodactis mushrooms, are highly sought-after for their large, balloon-like vesicles—or “bounces”—that come in vivid colors like orange, yellow, green, and blue. These soft corals are visually unique and can become centerpiece specimens in reef aquariums, but they require more stable conditions than typical mushrooms to truly thrive.

Bounce mushrooms prefer low to moderate lighting, as excessive intensity can cause bleaching or shrinkage, and low, indirect water flow that allows them to fully inflate without being disturbed. Ideal aquarium parameters include a stable temperature of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.024–1.026 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity at 8–12 dKH, calcium levels of 400–450 ppm, and magnesium around 1250–1350 ppm.

While they are primarily photosynthetic, occasional feedings of fine particulate foods like reef roids or phytoplankton can support growth and enhance coloration. When properly cared for, these stunning corals can grow steadily and remain a rare, eye-catching feature in any reef tank.
