Framers are neat! Sporting longer than normal tentacles tipped with round , torch coral like ends, as well as anchor type ends. Possible hybrid. Definitely, cool!
Wall hammer (Euphyllia ancora) and branching hammer (Euphyllia paraancora) corals are popular large polyp stony (LPS) corals prized for their unique hammer- or anchor-shaped tentacles and vibrant colors, ranging from green and gold to purple. Both types share similar care requirements but differ in growth forms—wall hammers grow as a single, continuous skeleton, making them more fragile and prone to tissue damage, while branching hammers grow in separate polyps on branching stalks, which are generally easier to frag.
They thrive under moderate lighting (LED or T5) and moderate, indirect water flow that allows their tentacles to gently sway without being whipped around. Ideal water parameters include a temperature of 76–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity at 8–12 dKH, calcium at 400–450 ppm, and magnesium at 1250–1350 ppm.
Both types of hammer corals benefit from occasional feedings of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, but can largely sustain themselves through photosynthesis. When placing hammer corals, give them plenty of space from other corals, as their sweeper tentacles can sting nearby neighbors. With stable water conditions and proper placement, both wall and branching hammer corals can thrive and add beautiful movement and color to a reef aquarium.
