Elegance corals (Catalaphyllia jardinei) are striking large polyp stony (LPS) corals known for their vibrant colors, fleshy tentacles, and flowing appearance, making them a dramatic centerpiece in saltwater aquariums.
They prefer moderate lighting—such as LED or T5 setups—and low to moderate, indirect water flow to prevent tissue damage. Ideal water parameters include a stable temperature of 75–80°F (24–27°C), salinity at 1.025 specific gravity, pH between 8.1–8.4, alkalinity from 8–12 dKH, calcium levels of 400–450 ppm, and magnesium between 1250–1350 ppm.
These corals benefit from occasional feedings of small meaty foods like brine or mysis shrimp, in addition to energy derived from their zooxanthellae. Placement on the sandbed is typically recommended, as they can inflate considerably. Additionally, they should be spaced well away from other corals to prevent stinging.
